The State government has launched helicopter services from Kovalam to Thiruvidanthai to enhance tourism in Mahabalipuram. Priced at Rs 5,000 per person, passengers can enjoy a scenic aerial view of the landscape and coastal regions. The government’s approval for this collaboration with a private firm underscores its commitment to boosting the tourism sector. Following six months of preparatory work, including constructing a helipad in Kovalam, the services commenced after receiving clearance from the Director of Chennai International Airport. The 10-minute helicopter journey adheres to strict safety protocols, covering destinations such as Mutukadu, Kelambakkam, and Thiruvanmiyur, excluding Mahabalipuram due to its proximity to the Kalpakkam nuclear facility.
