Satpura National Park is the only national park in India where one can go on a walking safari. Spanning over 1,500 sq km of Madhya Pradesh, the vast sanctuary boasts a mosaic of landscapes—from rugged hills and abundant valleys to dense forests and meandering rivers. The seven peaks of the eponymous Satpura Range contribute to the varied topography, making it an ideal habitat for an astonishing variety of flora and fauna, big and small, harmless and dangerous. Participants walk for eight to nine hours daily, encountering steep descents and moderate ascents, requiring a moderate fitness level. Children under 14 are not permitted, but there’s no maximum age limit. Campsites lack electricity but provide lanterns and flashlights, with limited mobile connectivity. Covering 30km over two days along the legendary Forsyth Trail, with overnight stays in full-service tents, this mobile camping expedition allows you to witness the unspoilt beauty of India’s first reserve forest in Madhya Pradesh. Batches are limited to two to three groups of 10 people to reduce environmental impact and enhance interaction with wildlife. Single-day walking safaris with basic tent camping is also available.
