A team of surveyors from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has unearthed a 4000-year-old urban settlement 13 km from the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the team, the site found at Bambhaniya is one of the craft villages mentioned in ancient literature. The BHU team revealed that these discoveries date back to very old human settlements near Varanasi that could have grown into a sub-centre of the holy city. A temple made between the 5th and 8th century AD has also been found.
The survey found a temple dating back to the 5th century through 8th century, potteries which are 4,000-year-old and walls which are 2,000-year-old.
