Celebration of valour, victory and vibrance
The auspicious 9-day festival of Navratri ends with a bang of celebrations on Dussehra.
Dussehra marks the victory of good over evil, following the story of the evil king Ravana who was defeated by Lord Ram on this day. People come together to hold fairs with games, street food, Ferris-wheels and other fun activities. The highlight of the evening is the burning of towering effigies of Ravana, a symbolic representation of the destruction of evil.
The day also celebrates the killing of demon Mahishasur by Goddess Durga.
