Haridwar is all set to get laser-guided automated podcars to ferry pilgrims and tourists from one part of the holy city to another – a first for any destination in the country. Neighbouring cities including Rishikesh and Dehradun will get ropeways to improve access to hilly terrains.
Madan Kaushik, Uttarakhand’s Urban Development Minister, told the press that the idea was inspired by the cost-friendly personal rapid transit systems in the UK and Germany. Hence, the state-level committee gave its heads up to it.
