Known as the largest gathering of religious pilgrims around the world, the mystical Kumbh Mela is set to kick off on January 15. This year the Kumbh mela will last for 55-days, with the first royal bath on 14/15 January.
When: 15th January – 4th March 2019
What’s Special: The first known evidence of the Kumbh can be found in 2000-year-old accounts of Chinese traveller Xuanzang, according to some accounts. It is celebrated four times over the course of 12 years, the site of the observance rotating between four pilgrimage places on four sacred rivers—at Haridwar on the Ganges River, at Ujjain on the Shipra, at Nashik on the Godavari, and at Prayag (modern Allahabad) at the confluence of the Ganges, the Jamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati.
