The holy month of fasting, Ramadan begins and ends with the appearance of the new moon. For Muslims, it is a period of introspection, prayer and reading of the QurÊŸÄn. It is believed that God forgives the past sins of those who observe the holy month with fasting, prayer, and faithful intention.

Whatâs Special: Traditionally, fasting goes on from sunrise until sunset and is ended with an evening meal called âiftarâ. Many streets across the country are open till late, dishing up the most delicious food for the iftar feast â from succulent kebabs to spicy curries and the traditional Haleem, made with ground meat and spices. Many food walks are organised to give a taste of the âiftarâ festivities, covering the best areas of town. Itâs a great time to be a foodie in India!
