In an unprecedented occurrence for India, the Chittari estuary in Kasaragod district has become the site of a remarkable discovery – the sighting of a laughing gull, a migratory bird native to North America. The birdwatcher and school teacher, C. Sreekanth, not only spotted the bird but also managed to capture photographs of this avian rarity. Renowned for its distinct laughter-like calls, the laughing gull has traversed thousands of kilometres, making its journey from North America to the coastal region of the state, creating a unique spectacle in Kasaragod.
