A month-long festival, Saga Dawa holds special significance for Buddhists in the state of Sikkim. Different rituals are performed in the monasteries, representing the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautam Buddha. Lamps are lit up across the streets, which are believed to act as guiding lights for the devotees.
When: 8th June – 26th June 2019
What’s Special: Sikkim’s popular Tsuklakhang Monastery serves as the starting point for grand processions lead by monks, who chant prayers along the way. It’s a great time to travel to the hilly state for a deeper understanding of Buddhism.
