A new arts center, Hampi Art Labs, has emerged near the ruins of the 14th-century Vijayanagar empire in Hampi. Founded by Sangita Jindal and Tarini Jindal Handa of the JSW Foundation, this rust-colored structure spans nine acres of landscaped gardens, mirroring the curves of the nearby Tungabhadra River. The center is designed to reflect the historical blend of art, architecture, and literature that thrived in Hampi from the 14th to 16th centuries. Crafted from locally sourced materials such as soil, stone, and steel, Hampi Art Labs’ design pays homage to the region’s traditional terracotta and earthenware, commonly found along riverbanks. This new space promises to be a cultural beacon, celebrating both the history and artistic spirit of Hampi.
